Meet Dr. Francis Tuluri

The Jackson State University researcher is focusing on Cyber Physical Systems, Internet of Things and Security. He is researching at CIRI for the Department of Homeland Security's Summer Research Team Program.

He’s stated that the Summer Research Team has led him to new technological developments within the field and has provided him with a platform to continue strengthening sustainability. 

One of the main reasons why he applied for the SRT program is because of the incredible chance to develop collaborative education research between MSI and DHS Research Centers. 

When asked to describe his experience researching at the university, he expressed his excitement for the opportunity to make use of the research lab facilities. He’s already begun developing contacts with the experts in state-of-the-art technologies by working with the mentors of CIRI. 

When he’s not researching, Dr. Tuluri enjoys traveling, reading, spending time with family, and listening to Gospel music/sermons.

Where are you from and what are you currently researching at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign?

For the past two decades, I have been working as a faculty at Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi. I was originally from India - Vijayawada (city), Andhra Pradesh (State).

My current research area is Cyber Physical Systems, Internet of Things, and Security 

What attracted you to apply for the Summer Research Team Program for Minority Serving Institutions?

The Summer Research Team Program is an incredible opportunity to develop collaborative education research between MSI and DHS Research Centers 

Describe how your experience has been thus far conducting research with CIRI at U. of I.

We are excited to get working with the University of Illinois at CIRI because of the opportunity to take advantage of the research lab facilities. We have developed contacts with the experts in state of the art technologies by working with the mentors of CIRI. 

How will or has this opportunity impacted your professional growth?

The Summer Research Team led me to initiate my professional growth by entering into new technological developments emerging in Cyber Physical Systems, Internet of Things, and Security domains. 

It has provided a platform to take the experiences gained now to strengthen sustainability to continue the increased professional growth is also a key factor towards gaining grantsmanship for submitting new proposals to Federal and National agencies 

What do you enjoy outside of your research (movies, TV shows, art, hobbies, etc.)?

 Reading books, traveling, family meetings, listening to Gospel Music and Sermon
