John Villasenor
John Villasenor is a professor of electrical engineering, public policy, and management at UCLA. He is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC, where he co-directs the Brookings Financial and Digital Inclusion Project. In addition, Professor Villasenor is a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Cybersecurity, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and an affiliate of the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford.
Professor Villasenor’s work addresses the intersection of digital technology with public policy, business, and the law, and has considered topics including cybersecurity, cloud computing, the globalization of technology product design and manufacturing, advances in digital communications and electronics, and the increasing complexity of today’s networks and systems.
In addition to his academic research, Professor Villasenor has worked in early stage technology venture capital since the 1990s. He has published in the Atlantic, Billboard, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Fast Company, Forbes, the Huffington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Scientific American, Slate, and the Washington Post, and in many academic journals.
