Mapping Infrastructure Interdependencies for Improved Emergency Management and Resilience Investment Decisions

Research Team Leadership

  • PI: Iris Tien, Georgia Institute of Technology

Project Overview

To enable municipalities to better understand their vulnerabilities and inform decisions to increase resilience, this project will change how risk assessments are conducted by mapping interdependencies between infrastructure and running analyses across threat scenarios to support more comprehensive risk assessments. Through a collaboration with the City of Atlanta Office of Emergency Preparedness, the focus of the project will be on emergency management, including critical water services and their vulnerabilities to cyber attack. The City of Atlanta will serve as a proof-of-concept test of the benefits of interdependency modeling and comprehensive risk analyses, providing a roadmap for other municipalities to follow to improve critical infrastructure resilience.
